Tuzla, situated on the south - east slopes of the Majevica mountain, occupies the central area of north - east Bosnia. Two minor rivers, Jala and Solina, run through the town. The elevation of the town is 239 meter above sea level, and it occupies an area of approximately 15 square kilometer. The town has a population of approximately 100 000, while the greater municipal area has 170 000 inhabitants. It's the fourth biggest town in Bosnia and Herzegovina and it's the economic, scientific, cultural, educational, health and tourist center of north-east Bosnia.

Tuzla is the domicile of major industrial, commercial, traffic, construction and tourist organizations, many of which were included in the international trade. Coal Mines "KREKA", Chemical Complex "SODASO", Production Commercial Complex "PTK", Construction industrial company "Tehnograd", Termoelectric Power Station ("Termoelektrana"), Chemical Industry "HAK", Tuzla Bank and other. Whenever you come to this town you can stay in Hotel "Tuzla".

There is a railroad, connecting Tuzla to the traffic centers Doboj and Vinkovci, and also highways to Sarajevo, Adriatic coast and Zagreb which open its ways to the Western Europe. The town is surrounded by attractive picnic locations: Ilincica in the closest proximity of the town itself, Kiseljak and the Modrac lake, Mackovac and Vijenac on Konjuh mountain, Toplice on the Spreca river etc.

The mineral water springs Salt Water Baths and Kiseljak are among the significant natural resources of Tuzla. The underground exploatation of mineral raw materials, which has been going on in this area in the past several decades has caused a considerable subsiding of terrain in the town and the places the ground has subsided up to 10 meter. This has brought about tearing down of many buildings, especially objects of old architecture, which in turn change the character of the town to a considerable extent. Many famous streets, squares and neighbourhoods of old Tuzla have disappeared. In recent years much efforts has been put into a planned revitalization of these areas to bring life back into them. One of the projects that have been realized was also old "Cesma" rebuilt few years ago situated at the center of the town.

Tuzla is a university and educational center with several organization providing university, high school and pre-school education. The active cultural professional organizations and institutions in Tuzla include the National Theater, The Portrait Gallery, The Ismet Mujezinovic's Gallery, The Museum, The Library, The Historic Archives, The Youth Center, The Cultural - Sports Center "Mejdan", The Culture and Arts Association "Bosna" etc
